How about if we spend one day (monday?) de-engineering the spice-bot and decide what its gonna take to build our own chassis? We can then decide which route we're gonna take.

I would be ok if we meet next Monday but I have one class (1:00-2:30).
I guess Lego robot would be ok;;;;;

Talked to a couple engineers. Scratch RFID or audio homing- way too difficult a project for such a short time. We should use IR beacons for tracking. Something like this commercial module: www.pololu.com/catalog/product/701Easy to implement but a bit costly though. What do you think?

I don't know how well it's going to work if there's an obstacle in the way that will obstruct the IR's line of sight.

Unless the obstacle is a concrete wall then yeah. Chairs/tables won't be a problem. But ideally we want to keep the robot a couple feet behind the person its following. I don't think the short range will be a problem for IR.
